Day Rate: £650 (Inside IR35, via Umbrella) – Contract: 9 months (with potential extension) – Location: Remote-first (occasional supplier visits, Midlands preferred)
About the Role
We’re seeking a seasoned Procurement Category Manager to lead strategic procurement across critical supply chain categories. This high‑impact interim role will shape category strategies, deliver measurable savings and influence transformation initiatives in a business that values agility and innovation.
You’ll take ownership of logistics, plumbing & heating merchants, waste and refurbishment categories, driving commercial outcomes while coaching a small team. If you thrive on strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement and complex negotiations, this role offers autonomy, challenge and the chance to make a real difference.
Key Responsibilities
* Category Strategy Leadership: Own and evolve strategies for logistics, merchants, waste and refurbishment categories.
* Tender & Contract Management: Lead complex tenders, manage expiring contracts and negotiate favourable commercial terms.
* Commercial Negotiation: Deliver cost savings and risk mitigation through robust negotiation and governance.
* Supplier Relationship Management (SRM): Build strong supplier partnerships to drive performance, innovation and compliance.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Influence senior decision‑makers and align procurement strategies with business priorities.
* Team Coaching: Support and mentor a team of three Category Specialists on BAU procurement activities.
* Transformation Contribution: Adapt strategies to align with ongoing supply chain transformation programmes.
* Governance & Compliance: Ensure adherence to procurement policies and risk management frameworks.
Key Skills & Experience
* Proven direct procurement experience in supply chain‑related categories (logistics, merchants, waste, refurbishment).
* Strong commercial negotiation and contract drafting skills.
* Strategic category management experience in complex organisations.
* Ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders at executive level.
* People management experience (mentoring/coaching).
* Track record of delivering cost savings and value creation.
* Appreciation of supply chain operations and logistics processes.
* Familiarity with SRM frameworks and supplier performance management.
* Flexibility and adaptability to support transformation initiatives.
