EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST IN JOINING THE GOVERNING BODY INVITED
The Governing Body of Canterbury Christ Church University is responsible for determining the educational character and mission of the University and has oversight of its activities. We are currently recruiting to various roles on the Board, commencing 1 August 2026. All appointments shall be for an initial term of office of four years.
The University wishes to encourage expressions of interest in joining the Governing Body, and would particularly welcome applications from women, Black, Asian, and other minority ethnic candidates to enhance the Board’s diversity. We would also welcome expressions of interest from members of the Church of England in view of our Anglican Foundation status. Applications are accepted from candidates in Kent and Medway, and further afield.
Canterbury Christ Church University is a dynamic and friendly university with over 30,000 students, over 1,500 staff, and an effective Governing Body consisting of 18 members. The Sunday Times Good University Guide has revealed the University is in teh top 10 in the UK for teaching quality and student experience. The University has an exciting future ahead in line with its strategy Vision 2030. Following a period of significant growth and diversification, the University will now be looking to expand its postgraduate provision as well as its online offering.
The role of a non-executive Governor is not salaried (although reasonable expenses are paid) but provides opportunities to contribute to the development of the University working with other members of the Governing Body, the Vice Chancellor and other senior staff.
All Governors need to have the skills, senior level strategic experience and time to make a significant contribution to the work of the Board. Appointments are made to ensure that collectively the Governing Body has the full range of skills required to govern a large complex university with a turnover of circa £356 million.
We are currently looking for governors with skills and experience in one or more of the following areas of expertise:
* Legal & Consumer Protection
* Marketing and PR
* STEM (including Medical, Health and Social Care)
* Finance / Accounting
* Local Authority
* Estates Management / Construction
* Digital Transformation
* Research, Innovation and Enterprise
* Higher Education Policy and Regulation
* Partnerships
* National Policy
