Job overview

A strategic objective of the Renal Operational Delivery Networks (ODN) is to increase to 40% of the Living Kidney Donors (LKD) to be pre-emptive, a positive step in preventing the need for individuals to commence renal replacement therapy.

The role of the Band 4 will be new to the team assisting the registered nurses in providing high quality patient centred care. This role will be vital in helping to ensure that all patients receive education & timely referral for transplant.


Main duties of the job

Renal knowledge & experience is desirable but not essential for the successful candidate as they will undertake a range of skilled procedures relevant to the clinical sphere after receiving relevant training and competency assessments have been completed.
The role will include but is not limited to:
Obtain requested specimens and order routine bloods/investigations as directed by the senior members of the team

* Able to triage patients concerns, phone calls and escalate accordingly
* Act as a link between patients, nurses and MDT members.

Education, qualifications & training


Essential criteria

* NVQ level 3
* Higher Professional Diploma in Health and Social Care


Skills & abilities


Essential criteria

* Full understanding of the role and its limitations as stated in the job description.
* Minimum one year experience in renal with haemodialysis skills.
* Evidence of ability to practice as an assistant practitioner
* Knowledge & understanding of all forms of renal replacement therapy
* A basic understanding of immunosuppression therapy
* Ability to contribute to the development of junior staff
* Effective verbal and written skills
* Able to assist the registered nurse in health promotion
* Experience and competency in cannulation and venepuncture
* Able to handle and support complex cases, medication compliance, patients with specials needs


Experience


Essential criteria

* Can demonstrate skills and experience relating to the teaching/ education of junior staff or patients.
* Basic keyboard and IT skills


Desirable criteria

* Experience working within a renal setting.

* Works well within a team and without direct supervision.
* Good attendance record.
* Able to work flexibly within a busy environment.
* Able to work under the direction of the Renal Nurse Specialists and if appropriate other members of the Renal Team.

* Knowledge of clinical audit
