Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced construction-literate Finance Manager / Bookkeeper to join our finance team part-time one day per week. The ideal candidate will be someone who is confident managing construction finances independently. You'll manage our day-to-day finance operations, ensure all bookkeeping is accurate in Xero, ensure CIS and VAT compliance, and maintain full visibility of project cashflow and margins. You'll report directly to the directors and coordinate with our external accountant for VAT, year-end, and compliance.
Duties
* Manage weekly bookkeeping in Xero.
* Process and verify subcontractor invoices.
* Handle CIS verification and monthly CIS returns.
* Reconcile bank transactions weekly.
* Prepare supplier and subcontractor payment batches.
* Track project income and expenditure.
* Produce simple cashflow and profitability summaries.
* Maintain organised financial records for HMRC and accountant use.
* Support quarterly VAT return preparation.
* Liaise with accountant on year-end accounts and tax filings.
Skills
* Proven experience as a bookkeeper or accountant (construction industry preferred)
* Strong working knowledge of Xero and CIS.
* Understanding of VAT for construction (domestic reverse charge etc.)
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
* Strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
* Good communication skills for liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders.
* Ideally AAT-qualified or equivalent (not essential if highly experienced)
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £230.00-£260.00 per day
