THE BUSINESS
The Royal Bath & West of England Society is a charity that was set up in 1777 to promote and encourage Agriculture, Manufacture, Arts and Rural Crafts through an innovative approach to education and knowledge transfer. The business of the Society has evolved into three parts: -
1. Hosting financially viable agricultural and rural shows through Bath & West Shows Ltd.
2. Gaining best commercial value from our showground through Bath & West Enterprises Ltd.
3. Delivering our charitable objectives.
The Society is best known for hosting the annual Royal Bath & West Show on its own Showground at Shepton Mallet. The Showground hosts a wide variety of other events organised by third party event organisers.
Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our team.
The successful candidate will undertake a diverse range of day-to-day assistance, maintenance and repairs to all buildings, facilities, plant and equipment at the Showground to ensure it looks its best.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong background in electrical, mechanical, and commercial maintenance. The technician will play a vital role in troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, to uphold safety standards and operational excellence.
Duties
· Undertake general repair and maintenance work in connection with the building fabric, and grounds to ensure the Showground remains operational.
· Respond to breakdowns/failures to make a repair where possible or take steps to temporarily make the building/area safe and secure as necessary.
· Diagnose faults and rectify them where possible in a prompt, appropriate, safe and cost-effective manner or escalate them to your Line Manager.
· Carry out planned preventative maintenance in accordance with statutory regulations and industry best practice
· Carry out reactive corrective maintenance in accordance with statutory regulations and industry best practice
· Undertake the maintenance, repair and replacement of furniture, fixtures, fittings, plant, services and equipment
· Report all building, fixtures, fittings and maintenance issues/defects through appropriate channels
· Assist with premises security; this includes the security of all buildings and assets on the showground
· Be a named keyholder and assist with the locking /unlocking of the showground for daily operation as per showground opening hours and events
· Assist with all aspects of the showgrounds fire & intruder alarms' management
· As required, escort building contractors and service engineers around buildings and supervise as required. Report on the quality of work/service provision to the Head of Operations.
Skills
· Promote good health and safety procedures for the Estates team, office staff, contractors and their working practices.
· Demonstrate a reliable and flexible approach in the undertaking of a full range of site support & assistance duties including differing start and finish times and working periods.
· Work weekends to meet the needs of the Showground as required by mutual agreement.
· Work as a team player at all times, contributing to a successful team output with an achievement of meeting targets and expectations in all areas of work.
· Attend training courses as directed.
· Play an active part in the life of the showground, sharing the aims and objectives of the Society and supporting members of the Senior Leadership Team at all times.
· To accept and work within the policies, procedures and guidelines of The Royal Bath and West Society
· To positively and professionally represent The Royal Bath and West Society at all times
Days of Work
· The basic working week is 40 hours across 5 days per week to support the Showground's core
activities. The basic daily attendance hours are between 08.00 to 16:30 hours Monday to Friday, with 30 minutes for lunch. The post-holder, however, will be flexible, to meet the Showground's service needs, particularly during the Royal Bath & West Show.
· There is a requirement to work occasional weekends (or parts of weekends) on a rota basis with colleagues to support the events team on the Showground for which overtime will be paid or Time off in Lieu.
