EYE DAY UNIT THEATRES

Awarded Diamond accreditation by STAQC, we are looking for a clinical support worker with suitable theatre experience or willing to learn the role of clinical support worker to work within our busy Eye Day Unit Department.

Post holders will be appointed at band 2 or band 3 depending upon skills, experience & qualifications.

Band 2 requirements willingness to undertake all relevant training and qualifications if wishing to develop into a band 3 role.

Band 3 requirements:

Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or Maths & English GCSE A-C/4-9 or

Maths & English O Level/GCE A-C or Maths & English CSE Grade 1 or NARIC/ENIC which compares the qualification to UK GCSE (

Care certificate

Level 3 vocational qualification or Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties and/or Equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3;

There is a clear framework to allow for postholders to develop from a band 2 to band 3 and this includes completion of the qualifications.

Main duties of the job

Whilst delivering a busy elective programme, we also provide a trauma and On Call Service for our ophthalmology patients. We are committed to staff development and ensure that staff are trained across all sub specialities to ensure we are able to deliver safe and effective care to all.

The successful applicant will be assisting and caring for patients undergoing surgery. The role of a clinical support worker within the theatre department is a specialised and extremely interesting and rewarding role. As a support worker you will be directly impacting on the quality of care we provide to patient undergoing a surgical procedure.

As a clinical support worker within a team you will set up and ensure theatre is ready for the day, setting up for elective procedures, checking equipment's and ensuring theatre is prepared for the patient. During the procedure the scrub practitioner and Surgeons will be scrubbed and therefore will rely on your knowledge and skills to circulate the theatre alongside a theatre practitioner. You will be expected to gain good understanding of the surgical procedures. You will be fully supported by the theatre sister and theatre manager, and we will endeavour to bring the best out of you, and this role will promise to be challenging and demanding buy very rewarding.

Qualifications & Training (Band 3)

Essential criteria

1. Level 3 vocational qualification or Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties and/or Equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3; -Theoretical knowledge -Experience of a range of care and related procedures -clinical observations -knowledge of relevant legislation

6. Excellent interpersonal, communication & active listening skills. Ability to adopt appropriate styles & methods of communication
7. Time keeping, planning & prioritisation skills
8. Insight into behaviours and skills of a carer and the need for effective teamwork

9. Familiarity with current NHS and social care policies.

Knowledge & Skills (Band 2)

Essential criteria

10. Basic IT skills to use electronic patient records and other Trust systems to update basic patient information from personal care and associated activity.
11. Basic analytical, numerical, literacy and judgement skills
