* Occupational Therapists are one group of staff within the social care sector. They have a key role in enabling Local Authorities to meet their statutory obligations
1. To provide a professional Occupational Therapy service to clients of all ages and disabilities living in the community, in accordance with the local authority’s legal duties and responsibilities.
2. To practice in accordance with the standards required by the Health and Care Professions Council.
3. To practice in accordance with the standards required by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists “Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct”.
4. The needs of individuals and their carers are assessed holistically, care plans and provisions negotiated, monitored and reviewed.
5. Risks to individuals and others are assessed and balanced in a way that promotes independence of service users and their carers.
6. Decisions about eligibility for services are made with reference to the relevant legislation and fully evidenced.
7. Equal opportunity and respect for diversity and difference is promoted.
8. Social inclusion of isolated and vulnerable people is promoted.
9. Environmental barriers to safety and independence are minimised.
10. Collaboration and multi-disciplinary or partnership working with other agencies is strengthened.
11. Accountability for actions is taken through effective, accurate recording of decisions.
