Hays is delighted to be supporting a Gloucester-based Secondary School & Sixth Form in recruiting a passionate and knowledgeable Religious Education Teacher to cover a Maternity Leave on a Part-Time basis. The school serves a diversemunity, with around 1,500 students on roll and a well‑established Sixth Form. Strong pastoral systems are in place, supported by Dedicated Student Support Services that work closely with staff to support student wellbeing. Religious Education is a core subject within the curriculum, aligned with the school’s Catholic character and delivered across all key stages. The RE department is thriving and well‑respected, known for its strong subject knowledge, collaborative working and a clearly structured curriculum that supports effective teaching of faith, philosophy and ethics. Your new role
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high‑quality Religious Education across a range of ages and abilities, planning well‑structured lessons that engage and challenge students. The role involves assessing, monitoring and recording student progress, providing regular feedback and contributing to the preparation of pupils for external examinations. The post holder will support the implementation of a broad, balanced and well‑sequenced curriculum, working collaboratively within the department to share resources and best practice. Effective behaviour management and the creation of a positive learning environment are key expectations of the role. Opportunities may also include acting as a Form Tutor, contributing to pastoral support, and playing an active role in the wider life of the school.
What you'll need to succeed
The successful candidate will hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have the right to work in the UK. Applicants must have, or be willing to obtain, an Enhanced DBS check in line with safeguarding requirements. Experience teaching Religious Education at Key Stages 3 and 4 is essential, with Key Stage 5 experience desirable. Strong subject knowledge and the ability to deliver well‑structured, engaging lessons that support student progress are required.
