Electrical Engineer – Nuclear Infrastructure
Location: Hybrid (Site visits near Helensburgh)
Security Clearance: SC required (UK National)
A leading international engineering organisation at the forefront of the global energy transition is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join its Approving Authority team. This is a critical role supporting operational nuclear facilities and future programmes within a highly regulated, safety-driven environment.
This opportunity suits a technically strong engineer who thrives in high-hazard industries and is confident working across design assurance, safety substantiation, and multi-disciplinary collaboration.
The Role
Working within a multi-disciplinary engineering team, you will provide technical assurance and independent oversight across electrical infrastructure projects in nuclear environments.
Key responsibilities include:
Managing infrastructure design substantiation documentation
Reviewing and handling design changes and concessions
Presenting technical substantiations to safety committees
Developing EIMT schedules, procedures, and reporting outcomes
Producing Periodic Review of Safety (PRS) documentation
Conducting Independent Technical Reviews (ITR)
Reviewing calculations, safety submissions, and technical reports
Advising internal and external stakeholders
Supporting safety case development (HAZID/HAZOP)
Assessing electrical plant and equipment for hazards
Justifying engineering modifications within high-risk environments
You will play a direct role in maintaining compliance, supporting regulatory standards, and ensuring the integrity of safety-related systems and components.
About You
You are an experienced Electrical Engineer with strong technical judgement and the confidence to challenge and review complex engineering work.
Essential experience:
Design assessment of electrical installations in HV and/or LV environments
Experience across concept, detailed design, and construction phases
Background in regulated industries (ideally UK nuclear – energy or defence)
Experience authoring technical justifications in high-hazard sectors
Multi-discipline project experience
Knowledge of safety case methodologies (HAZID / HAZOP)
Experience reviewing safety-related structures, systems, and components
Qualifications:
BEng in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or demonstrable equivalent experience
