Overview
The Area Director of Sales & Marketing is responsible for overseeing and managing sales strategies for a collection of 5 hotels in the Phoenix, AZ area, including Hilton Phoenix Airport, Crowne Plaza Phoenix Airport, Holiday Inn & Suites Phoenix Airport North, Holiday Inn Phoenix-Chandler, and Hampton Inn & Suites Scottsdale/Riverwalk. This role involves leading revenue strategies for key segments such as group and volume transient, staying ahead of market trends, analyzing market share, and directing sales teams to meet or exceed revenue targets. The position also entails developing and executing marketing communications plans to achieve desired hotel positioning and managing the sales and marketing budget to support revenue goals. This role is an excellent stepping stone for gaining multi-hotel oversight experience, paving the way for larger regional responsibilities.
Responsibilities
* Lead and drive top-line revenue for primary and area hotels across key sales segments, including overseeing sales leaders at assigned hotels.
* Assess market trends, market share, and the competitive environment, reacting proactively to changes.
* Develop and implement marketing and sales plans aligned with hotel positioning and budget constraints.
* Act as the voice of the customer, communicating key issues across the organization.
* Utilize data from Smith Travel Research, P&L statements, sales forecasts, and other reports to inform strategies.
* Understand and communicate market demand, economic factors, and supply/demand dynamics.
* Conduct competitive reviews, SWOT analyses, and monitor new supply developments.
* Develop plans to penetrate primary markets based on geographic source data.
* Manage key accounts and develop strategies for key segments.
* Design sales deployment schemes and assign market territories.
* Set and manage sales goals to meet budget and market share targets.
* Oversee group pace and sales activity, including travel schedules.
* Manage owner relations, communications, and expectations for all hotels in the area.
* Lead and develop a team of Senior Sales Managers in the designated area.
Qualifications
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Director of Sales & Marketing or equivalent leadership role, with prior hotel sales experience.
* Experience overseeing multiple hotels preferred.
* Experience communicating with ownership groups and asset management.
* Proficient in sales automation tools (e.g., DELPHI, STS) and PMS systems.
* Collaborative experience with revenue management and operations teams.
* Strong knowledge of market segments, distribution channels, and strategic planning.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills.
* Strong interpersonal skills and team leadership ability.
* Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively to meet deadlines.
