As a Crating Workshop Manager at Crozier, you will be the key leader responsible for the efficient, safe, and quality-controlled production of custom fine art crating and packaging solutions. You will oversee all day-to-day operations, including personnel management, budget control, stakeholder relations, and the entire quoting process for bespoke crate builds. Your leadership ensures that the workshop supports Crozier's commitment to protecting priceless artistic creations Your role in our mission:
Responsibilities
* Direct the daily operations of the Crate Making Workshop, ensuring the timely and high-quality production of bespoke art crates and packaging.
* Lead, mentor, and manage the team of specialist crate makers, optimising workflow, scheduling, and training to maintain the highest standards of craftsmanship.
* Develop, manage, and monitor the workshop's operational budget, controlling costs related to materials, labour, and maintenance.
* Oversee and execute the accurate and timely quoting process for client and internal crating requests, ensuring profitability and clear communication of capabilities.
* Uphold stringent quality control standards for all finished crating products, ensuring compliance with international shipping regulations and art preservation protocols. Implement and enforce all workshop health and safety regulations.
* Act as the primary liaison between the workshop and internal departments (e.g., Sales, Logistics, Fine Art Technicians ) and external client stakeholders, ensuring seamless project execution.
* Manage inventory levels for all crating materials (e.g., timber, foam, hardware), overseeing procurement to ensure cost-efficiency and consistent material availability.
Qualifications
* Proven experience in an operations management role, ideally within a bespoke manufacturing, production, or high-value logistics environment.
* Demonstrable experience managing budgets, financial reporting, and the customer quoting process for custom services.
* Expert knowledge of carpentry, joinery, or specialised fabrication, with an understanding of fine art crating materials and techniques being highly desirable.
* Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to manage, motivate, and develop a skilled technical team.
* Excellent communication skills, capable of managing complex relationships with clients and senior internal stakeholders.
* A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Familiarity with industry-standard tools and equipment used in woodworking and crating fabrication.
