Senior Mental Health Support Worker - Carramar
Hours – 37 hours per week, Monday – Sunday, inclusive of bank holidays, shifts include mornings, evenings, weekends and sleep ins.
Service – Carramar, Thatcham, Berkshire.
Salary – £27,560 - £30,680 per annum (salaries vary depending on experience).
What You'll Be Doing
Response is looking for an enthusiastic, caring person to join their dedicated team at Carramar. The Carramar team provides care for clients in a 24 hour, 7 day a week supported housing service in Thatcham. The team creates a comfortable, safe and pleasant environment while helping residents work towards more independent living in the future.
As a Senior Mental Health Support Worker, you will lead shifts, manage medication, delegate tasks, manage incidents, monitor health & safety of the project and residents. You will mentor support workers, lead by positive example alongside managing your own caseload. You will provide person-centred support to clients with serious mental illness including adults with primary diagnoses of psychotic illness, often with coexisting conditions such as physical health issues, neurodiversity, drugs & alcohol use and cognitive impairment.

* Lead shifts, delegating set diarised and daily tasks
* Take the lead during incidents, safeguarding and complaints in the absence of the manager, ensuring policies and procedures are adhered
* Ensure all staff complete relevant health and safety tasks
* Mentor new support workers through induction including the completion of the Care Certificate and medication training
* Work within a One Team Approach and lead by example
* Respond to service phone queries and requests from internal and external customers in a timely manner
* Undertake assessments of referrals and attend regular assessment and risk management training
* Provide emotional support, encouragement, and practical assistance to residents with daily living activities
* Ensure risk is continuously assessed and risk management plans are kept up to date
* Comply with safeguarding policies and procedures for Adults and Children and Young People
* Represent the company professionally with punctuality, appearance and boundaries, including equal opportunities

Essential Criteria
* GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent)
* A commitment to continual personal development
* Detailed understanding of mental health and wellbeing challenges and the level of care residents may require
* Understanding of current approaches to mental health practice
* Knowledge of how to support referrals and assessments
* Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion issues
* IT literate with experience using MS Office
* Previous related work experience
* Good communication skills, written, verbal and listening
* A genuine interest in mental health and well-being with a commitment to delivering Response's mission
