This vacancy is for an Apprentice Optical Assistant based in Portishead.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to undertake valuable work experience within Boots Opticians supporting day-to-day tasks whilst gaining on-the-job qualifications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrate and explain product features, advantages, and benefits, using non-technical language.
2. Clearly explain the product pricing structure; handle questions and work with the customer to find a suitable product for their budget and gain commitment to purchase.
3. Deliver operational processes and tasks related to the role and the general operation of the store, such as date checking, banking, etc., to ensure right-first-time customer care and maximize profitability.
4. Follow all legal, professional, and clinical SOPs to the required standards.
5. Build rapport with customers and understand their needs throughout their journey; make recommendations suited to their vision and lifestyle needs.
6. Use the Optometrist’s recommendations to build suitable product solutions for the customer, including accessories, contact lenses, and additional pairs.
7. Deliver technical tasks in the practice by ensuring the safe supply of eyewear, such as ordering, verification, contact lens teaching, glasses collections, adjustments, and relevant administration.
8. Remain calm and professional when dealing with difficult customer situations; listen and conduct triage to find positive solutions. Support colleagues in resolving customer complaints when required.
9. Act as a buddy and mentor to colleagues within the team and stores, supporting Optical Consultants – Foundation to develop their knowledge and skills.
10. Act as a keyholder for your store if required.
11. Build rapport with customers and understand their needs throughout their journey; make recommendations suited to their vision and lifestyle needs with support from Eyewear Specialists and the wider team.
12. Support experienced colleagues in using the Optometrist’s recommendations to build suitable product solutions, including accessories, contact lenses, and additional pairs.
13. Deliver technical tasks in the store under guidance, ensuring the safe supply of eyewear, such as ordering, glasses collections, adjustments, and administration.
14. Remain calm and professional when dealing with difficult customer situations; listen and conduct triage to find positive solutions with support from Optical Consultants – Experienced and Dispensing Opticians where appropriate.
15. Follow all legal, professional, and clinical SOPs to the standards signed off by a clinician.
16. Actively undertake the BOOST training programme.

Level 3 Optical Assistant Apprenticeship.
Functional Skills Level 2 maths and English can be obtained on the course if you don’t already hold these qualifications.
