School & College Transport Team
About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Travel Supervisor, supporting the School and College Transport Team.
The team manages travel assistance and home to school/college transport provision for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to support attendance at schools and colleges both in Bury and outside of the borough. The team also fulfil the Council’s statutory duties in relation to travel assistance and free school travel passes.
This is a key position within the team; you will be expected to deliver a high-quality service in relation to all aspects of travel assistance. You will be responsible for delivering a range of activities including the processing of travel assistance applications for pupils with special educational needs, mainstream pupils and college students. You will also be required to supervise and support approximately 70 pupil escorts and ensure the efficient day to day running of the service.
The role will also involve implementation and monitoring of provider compliance in relation to the independent travel training contract and home to school/college transport.
You will have good customer care skills and experience of working with members of the public, both face to face and over the telephone. Regular liaison with contractors, parents, school staff and other professionals is required to ensure the safety of those that use the service.
You will need to work effectively and efficiently within the team and to tight deadlines, whilst managing your own workload. Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills are essential. You will need to be computer literate with the ability to work competently with Microsoft Office packages and a bespoke transport management tool.
Normal hours of work are 37 hours per week based around the usual business working week. In order to ensure the service is staffed when transport is operational a rota is in place that includes a 7:30am start or 4:45pm finish time during term time only.
