Closing Date: 09 July 2025 The Role We are seeking a highly motived, enthusiastic, experienced clinical educator to join the MSc in Physician Associate Studies Programme team. As Clinical Lead you will be responsible for overseeing the clinical content of teaching, resources, and assessments of MSc in Physician Associate Studies curriculum. You will contribute to all aspects of the programme including teaching delivery and planning, curriculum development, student experience and recruitment. Accountable to the Board of Studies and the Degree Programme Director you will work closely with the core programme team and the wider team of clinical educators in the region. The MSc in Physician Associate Studies Programme has been running at Newcastle University since 2016. The programme draws from the extensive academic and clinical expertise in the School of Medicine as well as our clinical educators in primary and secondary care within our region. The core team is a multidisciplinary team consisting of doctors, physician associates, nurses, and academics. The programme is committed to developing students who are highly knowledgeable, skilled, clinically competent, and fully prepared to undertake the role of a physician associate. The MSc in Physician Associate Studies programme is part of the School of Medicine alongside MBBS, Medical Education programmes, Clinical Science programmes and Interventional Nephrology. The school is focussed on the development and delivery of undergraduate and post-graduate taught programmes in Medicine. Interviews will be held on 31 July 2025 Key Accountabilities • Ensuring that the clinical content of teaching, resources and assessment on the programme is appropriate to the PA role and meets the requirements of the GMC • Participate in the development and delivery of teaching across a wide range of specialties • Participate in the development and delivery of assessment • Work effectively, and in partnership with the core teaching team and designated local leads within the Local Education Providers to deliver the course to the agreed learning outcomes • To quality monitor clinical content in learning materials used within the course, including those uploaded to the virtual learning environment • To actively contribute to curriculum development meetings and other quality monitoring/management meetings as appropriate • To work with the Degree Programme Director to ensure clinical teachers are appropriately trained for their role, both on-line and face to face The Person Knowledge, Skills and Experience Essential: • Consultant, GP or experienced doctor with significant post qualification clinical experience, • Experience of leadership in a clinical role • Experience in mentoring staff • Knowledge of the Physician Associate role and how it fits into the NHS workforce • Knowledge of developments in the PA role including the recent GMC regulation • Knowledge of the relevant subject areas delivered in years one and two • Experience of curriculum development and assessment • Experience of teaching/assessment in postgraduate or undergraduate programmes • PGCert in Higher Education or Fellowship of the HEA (or willingness to achieve within 3 years) • Experience of providing academic and pastoral support to students • Experience in using and developing technology enhanced learning (TEL) when teaching postgraduates or undergraduates Desirable: • Evidence of leadership in postgraduate or undergraduate education Attributes and behaviours • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Excellent organisational skills • Ability to work collaboratively and across organisations • Ability to manage change Qualifications Essential: • Registered doctor in good standing with the GMC and in a substantive senior clinical role with ongoing clinical credibility (minimum of 4 contracted clinical sessions) Desirable: • Minimum PGCert in Higher Education.
