Offer description

Management Accountant (Maternity Cover)

Full-time Temporary (35 hours)

(Part-time role considered for the right candidate)

Duration: 12 months

Salary circa £40,000 plus generous contributory pension, 5 weeks annual leave+BH's + family friendly and flexible working environment

Would you like to be part of a vibrant and successful organisation? To feel part of a team that is making a real difference to the lives and communities of Merthyr Tydfil?

The organisation

Here at Merthyr Housing we are passionate about providing quality and well maintained homes exclusively for people living within the borough of Merthyr Tydfil. We are a community based Housing Association, providing exceptional services to all our tenants.

We are only a small Housing Association, currently managing 1257 units, with a turnover of £8m and a staff base of 49. However, we punch well above our weight, particularly with our ongoing development programme, which will continue to increase our stock levels over the next couple of years.

The opportunity

Due to maternity leave, we are looking for a qualified Management Accountant to join our team to support the Financial Controller and Director of Corporate Services. We anticipate this temporary maternity cover role lasting for approximately 12 months.

The role will be responsible for the monthly preparation of the management accounts and the daily activities of the finance department. Reporting to the Financial Controller (FC), supporting and overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Finance Assistant (FA), the successful candidate will provide the technical accounting expertise to help the FA to further develop too.

The candidate

The successful candidate will be an experienced Finance professional, who has demonstrable experience of leading a finance function and using their initiative and technical expertise to help ensure the Finance function delivers a first-class service.

You will have advanced Excel skills and attention to detail, strong organisational and time-management skills, ensuring all deadlines are met, as well as experience of leading a high performing team. You will also have excellent communication skills, and the ability to build positive working relationships with fellow employees across the Association as well as with other stakeholders.

Ideally you will be a qualified finance professional with social housing sector experience, however it's more important that you have solid finance experience to draw on, which will allow you to hit the ground running and make a positive difference.

We recognise the value that diversity can bring to our organisation, and we undertake a review of our staff diversity to identify areas of underrepresentation. We therefore particularly wish to encourage and welcome applications from Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and diverse nationality candidates. At least two candidates from these backgrounds, who also meet the essential criteria will be guaranteed an interview at Stage 1. We identify candidates from these groups by requesting all candidates complete and submit an equality monitoring form with their application. If candidates decline to submit an equality monitoring form, their application will be assessed and shortlisted against the essential criteria alongside everyone else and they may/ may not be selected for interview.

If you are interested in applying for this post, please visit our website where you'll find a full job description, application form and equality monitoring form. Our website also provides further details on how we approach equality and diversity in recruitment.

All application forms, along with a completed equality monitoring form (found on the website) and covering letter should be emailed to the designated email address.

The closing date for applications is midday on Wednesday 1st October 2025.

Interviews are planned to take place at the MTHA offices during w/c 6th October or 13th October 2025.
