Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) to join the NHS Talking Therapies: for depression and anxiety service delivered by Talking Therapies Southwark (TTS). We welcome PWPs who have been qualified for a minimum of one year (by Oct 2026) to apply. We are seeking an enthusiastic senior PWP who is passionate about developing their skills to support our PWP team and help improve the lives of others. Successful applicant can expect to join a highly valued and motivated TTS workforce who are committed to developing a person-centred and effective psychological assessment and treatment service to the local population.
We have career pathways available, where you will be able to develop your skills and build on your experience to progress into other specialties like High Intensity CBT therapist or Clinical Psychologist.
Responsibilities
* Provide assessment and provision of high quality low intensity interventions, e.g. psychoeducation groups and workshops, guided self-help, computerised CBT, pharmacological psychoeducation, drawing from CBT theories and techniques. This work may be face to face, via telephone / web and / or in group format.
* Attend and fulfil the requirements of the NHS Talking Therapies approved supervision training where appropriate.
* Provide case management and clinical supervision to Low intensity workers and Low intensity trainees in TTS.
* Identify training needs across the step 2 team and develop routes for CPD in coordination with Step 2 Lead and other SLAM IAPT sites.
* Offer training to Step 2 clinical staff and Primary Care staff in CBT based interventions.
* Attend locally organised and national training appropriate to the work role.
Qualifications and experience
* Qualified PWP with a minimum of one year’s experience by October 2026 (or equivalent)
* Proven ability to deliver telephone triage assessments and CBT-based guided self-help interventions
* Experience working with common mental health problems within primary care
* Willingness to develop supervisory skills and supervise step 2 clinicians
* Ability to co-run groups and workshops with other PWPs or High-Intensity Therapists (beneficial)

Our Trust headquarters is Maudsley Hospital (headquarters) located at Denmark Hill, less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2) and within walking distance from Ruskin Park and local amenities. This role offers opportunities to develop within NHS Talking Therapies in Southwark and to support the senior management team in expanding the step 2 offer in the service.
Location and additional information
The successful applicant will be proficient in delivering telephone triage assessments and CBT-based guided self-help interventions, with experience of working with common mental health problems within primary care. There will be opportunities to co-run groups and workshops with other PWPs or High-Intensity Therapists; experience and skills in this area are beneficial. This is also an opportunity to develop supervisory skills and gain experience in supervising step 2 clinicians.
