Senior Finance Assistant

Mills & Reeve invite you to apply for the Senior Finance Assistant role within our Birmingham office. The position reports to the Finance Team Leader and forms part of a wider finance operations team across our firms.
Role Overview
As an operational finance professional, you will undertake general cashiering tasks, process client and office transactions in line with the Solicitors Regulation Authority Accounts Rules, and support a range of finance activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Process client and office account transactions in compliance with SRA regulations.
* Conduct inter‑account transfers and assist with purchase ledger invoices and payments.
* Liaise with external clients regarding the firm’s credit card line.
* Assist with month‑end procedures and maintain accurate accounting data.
* Advise fee earners and executive assistants on correct accounting procedures.
* Support bank reconciliations and correct posting of discrepancies.
* Respond to queries from clients, banks and other stakeholders.
* Provide information to auditors and assist during audits.
* Carry out additional tasks delegated by team leaders and managers.
* Identify ways to improve finance efficiency through technology or process changes.
* Help implement new systems and working practices firm‑wide.
* Collaborate with finance colleagues on billing, credit control and working capital management.
* Produce required reports from the accounting system.
* Educate fee earners and assistants on financial best practice.
Required Qualifications
* Previous experience with legal cashiering.
* At least 6 GCSEs at grade 4 or above (or equivalent).
* Currently holding or pursuing an accounting qualification.
* Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
* Excellent attention to detail and written & verbal communication.
* Organised, methodical, and self‑managed with a proactive work agenda.
* Team player, capable of working locally and remotely with finance colleagues.
