A Snapshot of your day
As a HVDC Protection Engineer, you will work within a team of HVDC project management and engineering specialists to design and deliver full HVDC control and protection solutions for wind farm grid connections and interconnectors, utilizing a transient network analysis laboratory in Manchester.
You will report to the Engineering Manager – HVDC C&P and will be responsible for providing engineering work packages aligned with project and business objectives.

Your Responsibilities
* Preparation of quotations, engineering phases, performance, and customer acceptance tests. Support during commissioning from Manchester to handover.
* Development of DC protection concepts for self-guided multilevel converters for various applications.
* Protection coordination studies of HVDC systems using PSCAD/EMTDC, including setting determination and report preparation.
* Programming of DC protection and measurement systems in MATLAB/SIMULINK and CFC on the SIMATIC TDC system.
* Functional and performance testing, including Model-Based Testing in SIMULINK and Hardware in the Loop with RTDS.
* Customer training, acceptance tests, and lessons learned documentation. Act as a central contact for protection engineering projects.
* Support research and development for HVDC projects and troubleshooting post-sales.
Your Skills and Qualifications
* University degree in electrical engineering or related field; doctorate preferred.
* Experience in control and protection, especially DC protection for HVDC, FACTS, or large converter applications.
* Experience in software engineering/testing of SRS systems, with strong MATLAB/SIMULINK skills, including real-time and embedded software.
* Proficiency in PSCAD/EMTDC for modeling and simulation studies.
* Knowledge of Git, IEC61850, data modeling, Simatic Manager, and CFC is advantageous.
* Fluent in English; German language skills are a plus.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a focus on high-quality project execution.
