Birmingham (West Midlands)
Birmingham Children's Trust
Project worker

Offer description

About The Role

We understand that family life is not easy and sometimes relationships break down. Our service works with families to understand what has led to the breakdown and support them to repair and move forward.

We are dedicated to safely preventing and reducing the number of children and young people entering care. We provide direct and intensive support to children aged 8-18 years old and their families in their homes over a period of 4–12 weeks and beyond if needed.

Because we deal with families in crisis and children on the edge of entering care, our families require intensive support, which means visiting at least once a week, sometimes more if in crisis. We often work with families experiencing domestic abuse, mental health issues, substance misuse, child-to-parent violence, and children with additional needs, including neurodiversity and trauma from abuse, loss, or bullying.

We tailor our support to each family’s unique needs. Examples include:

* Improving communication as a family
* Exploring triggers and sequencing events to make changes for next time
* Supporting to manage escalation and de-escalation
* Understanding each other’s needs
* Self-care
* Exploring the impact of trauma and its presentation within behavior
* Understanding and exploring how to meet emotional needs through regulation

About you

* Be passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of children and families facing challenges.
* Have an in-depth understanding of family relationship complexities and be skilled in building trusting, respectful connections with children and adults.
* Experience working with families in crisis and providing intensive, direct support within the home environment.
* Be adaptable, resilient, and able to manage complex situations with empathy and professionalism.
* Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and be committed to family-centered practice prioritizing safety, relationship repair, and positive long-term outcomes.
* Thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment and be a consistent, reliable presence during difficult times.

Safeguarding

The level of check (Standard, Enhanced, or Enhanced with Barred List) depends on the role's responsibilities and contact level.

We treat all applicants fairly, including those with criminal records. Having a criminal record does not necessarily disqualify you; it depends on the role and background of the offence.
