An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join a thriving organisation at their site in Preston. This permanent, on-site role offers you the chance to play a pivotal part in both the daily support and strategic evolution of business-critical systems and infrastructure. You will be instrumental in delivering high-impact projects such as cloud migrations, SD-WAN upgrades, and network integrations following acquisitions. With a competitive salary of up to £50k plus paid overtime for Saturday shifts, this position is perfect for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and is eager to contribute to large-scale infrastructure transformation. The company is committed to employee wellbeing, offering a comprehensive benefits package including a Share Save Scheme, employee wellness initiatives, a generous pension plan, and life assurance. If you are passionate about infrastructure improvement and want to work with a knowledgeable and supportive team, this could be your next career move.

. Be at the forefront of major infrastructure projects including cloud migrations, SD-WAN enhancements, and network integrations that shape national operations.
. Enjoy a competitive salary up to £50k with additional overtime pay for Saturday shiftS
. Join an employee-focused organisation renowned for its commitment to developing people, providing clear career progression opportunities within a supportive and skilled team environment.

What you'll do:

You will immerse yourself in both hands-on technical support and forward-thinking project delivery. Your day-to-day activities will involve maintaining critical server hardware and software systems that underpin national operations while proactively monitoring network health. You will take ownership of resource allocation tasks such as managing VLANs and access controls, ensuring secure connectivity throughout the organisation. Supporting Citrix environments-including Virtual Apps & Desktops-will be central to your responsibilities alongside maintaining VMware virtualisation platforms. You will also play a vital role in delivering transformative projects like cloud migrations (including Exchange Online), integrating networks after acquisitions, upgrading SD-WAN solutions across multiple sites, and enhancing disaster recovery capabilities. By contributing your expertise in cyber security improvements and meticulous documentation practices, you will help ensure that all infrastructure remains compliant with evolving standards. Working closely with the Service Desk team on third-line support issues will allow you to share knowledge while learning from others in a highly collaborative setting.

. Install, configure, and provide ongoing support for server hardware and software infrastructure across multiple business units.
. Monitor network performance closely while managing usage patterns and ensuring robust security measures are maintained at all times.
. Allocate and manage essential network resources such as IP address schemes, VLANs, and access control lists to optimise connectivity.
. Support Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops environments including Netscaler/ADC appliances to ensure seamless virtualisation experiences for users.
. Maintain VMware virtualisation platforms by overseeing ESXi 7 hosts and vCenter management tools for optimal system reliability.
. Deliver third-line technical support while collaborating effectively with the Service Desk team to resolve complex issues promptly.
. Lead or participate in key infrastructure project work such as cloud migration (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Azure Files), network separation/integration post-acquisition, and SD-WAN upgrades across all sites.
. Contribute actively to disaster recovery planning by testing procedures regularly and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
. Champion cyber security enhancements by implementing best practices and supporting compliance with internal policies as well as industry standards.
. Create and maintain detailed documentation for all aspects of the infrastructure landscape to facilitate knowledge sharing and operational consistency.

What you bring:

To excel in this role, you will bring proven experience from previous technical positions where you have balanced project work with day-to-day support duties. Your background should include significant exposure to Citrix environments-both Virtual Apps & Desktops-and hands-on management of VMware platforms using ESXi 7 hosts. Familiarity with Microsoft enterprise technologies such as Active Directory administration, Windows Server ecosystems spanning several generations, Exchange (on-premises and online), plus Microsoft SQL databases will be crucial. You should possess a solid grasp of networking principles including switch configuration, Firewall management (with Cisco experience being particularly valuable), VLAN setup, routing strategies, and overall network design best practices. Experience participating in cloud migration efforts-especially those involving email or file storage-is highly sought after; similarly valued is practical involvement in integrating networks during acquisition-driven change programmes. Exposure to NetApp SANs further strengthens your profile. Beyond technical acumen, your ability to document processes clearly while communicating effectively ensures smooth collaboration within the team. A genuine passion for improving customer outcomes through dependable infrastructure services rounds out your suitability for this rewarding position.

If you are ready to make a meaningful impact on national infrastructure projects while advancing your career within a supportive environment, this is your moment!
