Medical Secretary – Orthopaedics
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde
Permanent full‑time (21.4 hrs/week) – Mon–Fri, 9.30 am – 2.16 pm
Location: Glasgow (RAH and IRH)
About the role
You will provide secretarial and administrative support to the senior clinical team within Clyde Orthopaedics. Your work will support both inpatient and outpatient care, ensure confidentiality, and promote efficient communication across the service. Key duties include recording clinical notes, managing patient paperwork, supporting service managers and coordinating clinical visits.
Responsibilities
* Provide accurate, timely, and confidential administrative support to clinical staff.
* Prepare and manage appointment schedules, patient waiting lists and clinical documents.
* Use NHS systems, including Trak and Clinical Portal, to record and retrieve information.
* Travel between RAH and IRH to support both sites as required.
* Undertake statutory and mandatory training; work with the Line Manager to set development objectives.
* Collaborate proactively with colleagues in a fast‑paced, team-based environment.
* Ensure all information is passed accurately and timely to relevant parties.
Qualifications & Skills
* Experience in NHS secretarial or administrative roles.
* Knowledge of NHS systems – Trak and Clinical Portal.
* Excellent communication, organisational and time‑management skills.
* Ability to work independently and manage workload with minimal supervision.
* High level of confidentiality and understanding of Board/Departmental policies.
* Desirable: Experience in waiting list management.
