What's the role?
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Business Development Manager to join our Utility Services team. This role will be responsible for driving business growth, expanding market presence, and fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders in the I & C marketplace across the UK.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the utility infrastructure market and a proven track record in sales, strategic partnerships, and project management.
The Business Development Manager will focus on Utility Services / Connections and will lead the identification and development of new customer relationships to support growth in Utility Services and the wider SMS business.
This role is based within the Utility Services team with close collaboration with other Business Development teams and support from central functions like group marketing.
This position offers a hybrid working model (2 days in office, 3 days at home on average) with working hours of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the implementation of the Business Development strategy across all routes to market, identifying and pursuing new opportunities in electric, gas, water, and telecommunications infrastructure projects.
* Conduct market research to identify trends, customer needs, and emerging opportunities.
* Build and maintain relationships with clients such as landowners, developers, utility providers, and government entities. Act as the main contact throughout the sales and project lifecycle.
* Lead proposal development and collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment with capabilities and client needs.
* Manage contract negotiations to secure favorable terms.
* Attend industry events to build brand awareness and network.
* Maintain CRM systems and prepare reports on sales activities and market insights.
* Coordinate with engineering, operations, and finance teams for seamless customer onboarding.
* Perform other duties as required.
Candidate Requirements:
* Proven experience in business development or sales within the utility infrastructure sector.
* Strong network and profile in the utility infrastructure markets.
* Experience with multiple complex products/services.
* Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
* Organizational skills to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
* Understanding of digital marketing and SEO.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
* Commercial awareness and strong networking skills.
