The Opportunity We are now recruiting for a Lead Design Engineer. The primary purpose of the Lead Design Engineer role is to take ownership of all design outputs and deliverables on allocated projects. This includes coordinating the scheme 3D model, managing equipment interfaces, and producing technical documentation such as drawings, 3D models, and manufacture packs. The Lead Design Engineer is also responsible for ensuring quality and consistency of outputs by supervising, advising, and checking the work of Design Engineers on allocated projects. You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching, mentoring and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain & develop your contributions and competence. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and development of equipment, systems, and schemes to the specified brief. Lead the production of 3D models and technical drawings, ensuring compliance with company CAD standards and design procedures. Lead the production of technical documentation in accordance with company standards. Manage drawings, models, bill of materials, and technical documents using company systems. Ensure design outputs (designs, drawings, documentation, etc.) on allocated project(s) meet project specifications, relevant standards, and regulatory requirements. Identify variations to contractual scope and escalate to the Project Engineer. Lead and facilitate design review meetings, ensuring design team actions are captured, assigned, and completed effectively. Carry out analysis of designs with a view to improving safety, DfMA, and functionality. Promote value engineering, standardisation, risk reduction, and a right-first-time approach. Undertake site visits and surveys to support successful delivery of projects. Provide technical leadership, support, and mentoring to Design Engineers and project team members. Ensure all work is delivered in alignment with the business’ ISO 9001 processes and templates as controlled within the Quality Management System (COS). Minimum Requirements: HNC in relevant design or engineering discipline, or equivalent Previous experience as a Design Engineer, with experience in material handling. Excellent knowledge of bulk material handling, conveyor systems, and associated equipment. Good 3D CAD software knowledge (Autodesk Inventor or Revit preferred). Excellent knowledge of technical drawing and drafting standards (BS 8888). Excellent understanding of the design process, and its associated documentation.
