Job Description
As a grinder, you will be working in a working shipyard and will be responsible for a variety of preparation and refit/repair activities. This will include onboard refit (rip out and refit), maintenance requirements and H&S aspects.
1. Operate grinding tools such as angle grinders, belt sanders, and disc sanders to remove excess material, smooth welds, and shape metal components.
2. Prepare surfaces for welding, painting, or coating by grinding, sanding, and cleaning as necessary.
3. Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accuracy in grinding operations.
4. Inspect workpieces for defects, imperfections, or irregularities, and make adjustments as needed to meet quality standards.
5. Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and other tradespeople to coordinate workflow and ensure project deadlines are met.
6. Maintain grinding equipment by performing routine inspections, cleaning, and lubrication, and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs to supervisors.
7. Adhere to safety procedures and regulations at all times to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace.
Qualifications
8. Time served grinder either in a shipyard or similar industry
9. Knowledge and compliance of workplace safety
10. Understand of engineering drawings and technical documents
11. Ability to establish an appropriate course of action for self and/or others to accomplish the work
