Part-time variable (casual/on-call) Marine Ecologist position at AECOM's Northeast Environmental Permitting and Planning practice. The position offers flexible locations (Chelmsford, MA; Boston, MA; Pocasset, MA; Manchester, NH) and is expected to start in August 2025. Responsibilities include:
1. Supporting projects for private and government clients across the U.S. and internationally.
2. Leading on-water sampling programs for sediment, water, biota, and benthic samples in freshwater, estuarine, and marine environments.
3. Processing samples, including sediment core logging and benthic infauna taxonomy.
4. Coordinating with project teams, subcontractors, vessel support, and supervising junior staff.
5. Developing technical solutions for complex problems using scientific principles and past experience.
6. Creating Sampling and Analysis Plans/Quality Assurance Project Plans.
7. Preparing technical reports and reviewing analyses.
8. Staying updated on federal and state regulations for sampling and marine surveys.
9. Maintaining high standards of work quality, quantity, and efficiency.
Minimum qualifications:
* BA/BS degree plus 6 years of experience or equivalent.
* Bachelor's degree in Ecology, Zoology, Biology, Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Toxicology, or related field.
* Knowledge of Atlantic Ocean benthic infauna.
* Valid Driver's License and ability to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.
* US Citizenship required.
* Master's degree in relevant field.
* 12+ years of marine survey and on-water sampling experience, including vessel work.
* Ability to support marine and field programs in New England and New York Coastal/Offshore Waters.
* Training in on-water/offshore work and OSHA 40-Hour training.
* Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. on uneven terrain.
* Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
* Highly organized and detail-oriented.
