Construction Project Management Degree Apprenticeship

As a BIM Technician, you will deliver data-rich 3D models and 2D engineering drawings produced using Autodesk Revit. You will work on a varied portfolio of projects that span a cross-section of sectors. The BIM Manager and the engineering team will support you. You will collaborate with designers, engineers, and technical experts to ensure all modelling efforts meet both internal standards and client expectations.

Applicants will study at The University of Greater Manchester in Bolton, completing a BSc (Hons) Construction Project Management (Design and Construction Management Degree Apprenticeship) through a traditional day-release model, one day a week at the University and four days a week in work.

Person Specification

* Take ownership of defined modelling tasks and deliver high-quality Revit models and 2D outputs.
* Set up MEP project models, views, sheets, tags, and manage model health.
* Actively coordinate services using clash reports and resolve issues in a multi-disciplinary environment.

* Participate in internal and external model reviews, giving and receiving structured feedback.

* Apply automation tools such as Dynamo and DiRoots in project workflows.
* Support the project team's use of Common Data Environment (CDE) systems (Dalux) and understand change & information.
* Follow PSK document control procedures.

This list of tasks and duties is not exhaustive and will change from time to time to reflect the needs of the business.

Essential

* Proficient in Autodesk Revit with solid MEP project experience.
* Able to manage modelling responsibilities independently and support coordinated project delivery.
* Familiar with clash detection, CDE workflows, and automation tools (e.g., Dynamo).
* Willing to mentor junior staff and contribute to team and firmwide initiatives.

Software Proficiencies

* Revit (Required)
* BIM 360 / AEC (Required)
* Navisworks Manage (Required)
* AutoCAD (Desirable)
* Microsoft Excel (Desirable)
* Adobe DC (Desirable)
* Dalux Box Pro (Desirable)

Occupational Health & Safety

* Compliance with workplace policies and procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control.
* Active participation in activities associated with the management of workplace health and safety.
* Identification and reporting of health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries and property damage at the workplace.
* Correct utilisation of appropriate personal protective equipment.
* Applicants should hold an HNC/HND in Construction and the Built Environment (or equivalent qualifications appropriately mapped on an individual basis to University of Bolton Level 4 modules). Alternatively, applicants should have achieved Technician status (or equivalent) with an industry recognised professional body (for instance, TCIAT Architectural Technician).
* Applicants should have five GCSEs at grade C or above or grade 4 to 9 (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics.
* We’ll consider such applications in line with the University’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) procedures, as appropriate.
* Applicants will attend a joint discussion with their employer and the University of Greater Manchester. This combined interview and onboarding discussion fosters trust and sets the tone of the relationship between the applicant, their employer and our tutors. As part of the interview, applicants may be asked to undertake additional assessment(s) or provide a portfolio of appropriate work to determine their suitability for the course.
* Admission to this programme is only available to applicants who meet Department for Education (DfE) eligibility criteria, including the following:
* They are employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a role relevant to the apprenticeship.
* They have valid residency status and the right to work in England and can provide a valid BRP card (valid beyond the end date of the programme including End-Point Assessment (EPA)), and a ‘Right to Work’ share code for validation.
* Their employer is willing to sponsor them to spend a minimum of six hours per week of their time in off-the-job training, including attending the University (times and dates to be determined) for the duration of their course.

The role provides substantial exposure to core areas including design coordination, BIM and information management, construction technology, risk management, and collaborative working practices, all of which are central to the Design pathway.

The remaining gaps, primarily in procurement, sustainability strategy, project leadership, and direct client advisory responsibilities, are typical for an early‑career position and fully addressed through the structured learning, off-the-job training, and academic components of the apprenticeship.

The University of Greater Manchester in no way acts as the employer; we are purely acting as the training provider.
