Job summary
We are looking for a doctor who can provide expert geriatric care for older people in general and specialist medicine. We are developing our offer to provide specialist care to older patients in inpatient settings, virtual community beds, and on an in-reach basis. The Trust is part of the Acute Frailty Network and is currently on an improvement journey to increase and improve the care and outcomes we offer our patients within Oldham, and we are currently developing the SDEC, hot clinic and in reach to orthopaedics, vascular and general surgery. Candidates with experience in Parkinson's disease and Movement disorders would be particularly welcome to apply as we wish to develop this service.
There is a commitment to General Medicine on-call. You will be involved in many aspects of elderly care including Dementia care, Acute frailty, in reach and virtual wards.
Substantive or 12 months fixed term contracts will be considered. Substantive contract holder must be on the specialist register for Geriatric Medicine and General (Internal) Medicine or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent at the time of interview.

Main duties
The Job Plan is being offered at 10 PAs with 1 PA as GIM on call, with opportunities for additional leadership and governance commitments, and would support part-time and flexible working arrangements at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA). We are also open to part time job plans of 8 PAs.
The main purpose of the role is:
* To provide clinical leadership, diagnosis, management and treatment for patients with a broad spectrum of complex geriatric medicine needs.
* Act as an expert resource for medical, nursing and other health care professionals across the Trust footprint.
* Be an active champion of high-quality medicine for older people both locally and across the region.
* The post holder will complement and develop existing services through the provision of specialist knowledge and development of services.
* Experience of working in a team delivering geriatric care. Mentoring and support from the existing consultants will be available to help you grow in this role.

Registration – Essential
* Full registration with the General Medical Council with a valid license to practice
* Inclusion on the Specialist Register / Admission to the Register within 6 months of interview in both Geriatrics and General (Internal) Medicine
Registration – Desirable
* Evidence of Accredited Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners
Essential Qualifications
* Hold MRCP(UK) or show evidence of equivalent training and experience
Desirable Qualifications
* Post Graduate Degree e.g. MSc, MD, PhD.
Knowledge and Experience – Essential
* Wide experience in General Medicine
* Good understanding of Clinical Governance
* Experience of leading and motivating staff.
* Evidence of audit work and where this has brought about change.
