An opportunity for a secondment/fixed term Matron post has arisen in Specialist Medicine Division at the Royal London Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, experienced Band 7 Registered Nurse to take the next step in their leadership journey. The post holder will be passionate about high quality, patient centered care and understand the need for change and quality improvement across the services. The role involves working with directorate MDT colleagues to ensure governance, safety and quality metrics are adhered to. You will be passionate about improving care and services for patients and will have led on quality improvement projects or initiative’s.

You will have experience in managing teams of nurses and be a compassionate, forward thinking leader who is confident in their abilities. The role will include clinical and operational management of services and nursing teams including ward/unit leaders and clinical nurse specialists. You will have experience of workforce utilisation and understand safe staffing and regular reviews.

You will understand the importance of governance, quality and safety in relation to patient care and this will be at the heart of your practice as a nurse leader. The role will involve leading initiatives and projects to sustain and improve care whist inspiring your team to do the same. Inspiring and developing members of your team is a key element of the role and we are looking for someone with this mindset and drive.

The post will in the GHRCD directorate leading the Endoscopy units at RLH & Mile End.

You will be supported by the Specialist Medicine Nursing Leadership team as you develop into this role and opportunities will be given to gain further confidence, knowledge and skills in various leadership activities such as quality improvement, workforce planning and strategic planning across the division.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead by example as the expert practitioner providing organisation and leadership to the multi-professional team. To deputise when necessary for the Senior Nurse.

The post holder will provide professional nursing leadership to his/her team and work in close collaboration with the GHRCD Management Team, Nursing colleagues and the Healthcare Governance team.

The post holder will take ultimate responsibility for the standard of the environment within his/her identified area of responsibility, ensuring Sisters and Charge Nurses maintain cleanliness, good infection control practice and that high priority and high standards of nursing care are given. The post holder will be accessible and visible to staff, patients and visitors.

Working with the GHRCD Senior Nurses, the post holder will ensure that Services succeed in implementation of the trust objectives.
