Salary Range: £1,413 - £5,652 per annum, plus additional incident call out payments
Hours per week: Minimum of 31 on-call hours per week
Contract Type: Permanent
The Role:
An on-call firefighter is a paid person employed by the fire and rescue service who is ‘on call’ to respond to emergencies and engage with the community. They maintain everyday lives and jobs until activated by their pager, then become professional firefighters.
The role, often called ‘part-time’, involves training and experience in emergency response, saving lives, and community protection. On-call firefighters are from all walks of life, including full-time, part-time employed individuals, students, or those not currently employed. They dedicate time to assist the fire service and protect communities.
This role is demanding but rewarding, fostering close teamwork and community engagement, including attending events. Responsibilities include fighting fires and handling emergencies like floods, road accidents, chemical spills, and animal rescues.
Previous Experience: No prior experience needed; comprehensive training provided. Essential qualities include enthusiasm, physical fitness, and ability to reach the fire station quickly after alert.
Note: Applicants must live or work within 4 minutes of the Fire Station; otherwise, applications will be rejected.
