The Role
As a Hub Technical Officer, you will provide scientific, technical and practical expertise to support the effective operation of wastewater treatment assets across the district. You’ll ensure all processes perform safely, efficiently and in line with regulatory, customer and business performance standards. Your work will directly contribute to compliance with environmental legislation (including UWWTD, PPC, UV, WML, WRA, Flow, HACCP and self‑reporting) while driving optimisation and cost‑effective performance.
Accountabilities And Responsibilities
You will be responsible for analysing and interpreting operational performance information, proactively identifying and implementing corrective actions within Health and Safety requirements; and escalating regulatory or performance risks to the Production Manager as appropriate. You will also:
* Develop, monitor and report technical action plans to ensure all wastewater processes meet regulatory, environmental and company performance standards.
* Provide scientific and technical guidance to Field Technical Officers, Process Controllers and Operators to ensure safe, efficient and compliant operations.
* Lead short- and medium‑term technical decision‑making for wastewater treatment assets, advising on process optimisation and asset capability.
* Identify compliance, efficiency and asset‑performance risks, recommending improvement options and supporting prioritisation of investment and operational actions.
* Support regulatory reporting by contributing district‑level information and ensuring quality assurance documentation is accurate, current and aligned to business needs.
* Collaborate with engineering colleagues to identify and deliver operational optimisation opportunities, improving performance and reducing whole‑life costs.
Skills And Experience
To be considered for this role you will be able to demonstrate a wide range of treatment technical skills to effectively monitor and control assets across a district. You will have excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills combined with effective team working to successfully influence key stakeholders. You will also have:
* Strong technical knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, assets and operational best practice, with practical experience in treatment operations or maintenance.
* Advanced analytical, numerical, IT and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and drive performance improvements.
* Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and influence stakeholders at all levels.
* Experience identifying and delivering process optimisation, performance improvements and asset‑based solutions that support lowest whole‑life cost outcomes.
* Understanding of current and emerging wastewater regulatory requirements, with the ability to translate them into practical, operational action.
A full UK driving licence is required for this role.
