Construction Counsel (3+ PQE) – Reading
A leading organisation is seeking a Construction Counsel (3+ PQE) to join its team in Reading. This role has arisen due to additional major projects work and offers exposure to a wide range of construction matters within a managed legal services arrangement for a utilities client. The successful candidate will provide clear, practical and commercial advice, supporting business objectives while managing risk effectively.
Responsibilities
The position involves drafting, reviewing and negotiating construction agreements, advising on variation and delay claims, and assisting with dispute resolution. You will also contribute to governance processes, monitor contract precedents, and deliver training to client teams. The role offers a mix of office and remote working, with 2–3 days per week based in Reading alongside the client’s retained legal function.
Qualifications
Candidates should be qualified solicitors or barristers with at least 3 years post‑qualification experience in construction law. Experience with NEC contracts, two‑stage contracting, framework agreements and dispute resolution is highly desirable, while knowledge of the utilities sector would be an advantage but is not essential. Strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a flexible, proactive approach are key to success in this role.
