Offer description

Company Overview

The Children's Bereavement Centre is a well-respected Nottinghamshire based charity that has been supporting bereaved children and their families for over 22 years. All have been impacted by the death or terminal illness of someone important to them. Our mission is to provide tailored individual and group support to help them navigate their grief and emotional challenges.

Our current Chief Executive has been in post for 10 years and due to her retirement in Spring 2026, we are seeking an inspiring and strategic leader who will be responsible for shaping and delivering the charity's strategic direction, strengthening our partnerships, team development and raising funds to ensure our vital services are maintained and developed.

Summary

We are seeking a dynamic Chief Executive Officer to lead the Children's Bereavement Centre. This pivotal role will drive our mission forward, ensuring that we continue to provide essential support services for children aged 3-18 and their families for many more years.

This is a hands-on leadership role, working closely with our passionate and committed team of staff, trustees, volunteers, families and growing supporter base. As a natural communicator and relationship builder, you will be an inclusive and purpose driven leader, financially astute as we look to maximise income whilst controlling costs, and will be a long-term, strategic thinker with the vision, ambition and experience to help us achieve greater profile and recognition of our high-quality services and support.

The successful applicant will ideally be based within Nottinghamshire and able to work from our Newark office at least two days a week.

Responsibilities

* Work with the Board of Trustees to shape and deliver the charity's long-term strategy, ensuring all activities align with our mission and ethos of keeping children and young people at the heart of everything we do.
* Lead a small, passionate team of staff and volunteers with empathy and clarity, maintaining on a warm, welcoming and nurturing culture that values everyone.
* Manage financial operations ensuring sustainability and growth of resources.
* Work with the fundraising team and grants officer to help develop income streams and cultivate partnerships to remain financially resilient.
* Nurture relationships to win the hearts and minds of a range of stakeholders in our community.
* Supervise staff, providing guidance and support for professional development.
* Advocate for the needs of bereaved children within the community.
* Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and best practices in service delivery.
* Represent the organisation at public events and meetings.
* The candidate must have:
* Proven experience in a leadership role within a non-profit or similar sector.
* Sound knowledge of issues affecting the voluntary sector.
* Strong management skills with a focus on team development.
* Experience of working across the funding spectrum, with proven track record.
* Experience in financial management and resource allocation.
* Excellent communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders.
* A deep commitment to improving the lives of children and families affected by bereavement and terminal-illness.

If you're ready to lead a small but mighty team and make a life-changing difference for local children, we'd love to hear from you.
