Job Description
A UK-based environmental and municipal services organisation is offering a placement opportunity within its Development and Bidding function, supporting the delivery of live projects and competitive tenders across local authority contracts.
This role provides hands-on exposure to public sector bidding, commercial development, project coordination, and compliance, working closely with senior stakeholders across the business.
The Opportunity
Reporting into senior development leadership, you’ll support the full lifecycle of local authority bidding activities – from opportunity identification and tender preparation through to contract handover.
The role spans municipal collection, streetscene, grounds maintenance, treatment and disposal services, offering broad exposure to how large-scale public sector contracts are developed, governed and delivered.
Alongside commercial responsibilities, you’ll also support health, safety, environmental and quality (SHEQ) compliance across bidding and operational activity.
What You’ll Do
As a Development & Bidding Placement Student, you will:
* Support tender and bid activity across local authority contracts
* Assist with opportunity assessment, portal monitoring and submissions
* Contribute to the preparation and quality assurance of bid responses and contract documentation
* Liaise with internal teams including Operations, SHEQ, Legal, Finance, HR and Technical functions
* Support project and programme delivery plans and reporting
* Assist with risk assessments, environmental impact analysis and compliance
* Help embed development procedures, systems and best practice
* Produce regular progress and performance reports
This is a delivery-focused placement with genuine responsibility and exposure to live commercial activity.
Key Criteria
Education
* Undergraduate student undertaking a placement / sandwich year (any relevant discipline)
Skills & Attributes
* Strong numerical and commercial awareness
* Interest in public sector projects, bidding, sustainability or environmental services
* Confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
* Comfortable working across multiple teams and stakeholders
* Proactive, resilient and able to adapt to changing priorities
* Organised, detail-focused and quality driven
Other Requirements
* Full UK driving licence
* Access to a car beneficial due to office and site-based working
