We’re looking for a Human Rights Manager to lead human rights initiatives and develop strategies to mitigate risks in Sainsbury’s supply chain. The role will shape and implement the Group Human Rights Strategy across our food and clothing sectors, working closely with Ethical Trade Managers, Environment specialists, Commercial and Technical teams, stakeholders and suppliers.

What you'll do
* Lead the development and implementation of the human rights strategy across a key business unit.
* Engage internal and external stakeholders to support the strategy.
* Work with Commercial and Technical teams to implement key initiatives aligned to the strategy.
* Build cross‑functional relationships with suppliers and lead supplier collaborations and programmes.
* Draft approaches, policies and standards for internal sign‑off.
* Represent Sainsbury’s on key human rights topics to industry groups, government, investors and NGOs.
* Contribute to external reporting and disclosures such as the modern slavery statement and annual Plan for Better reporting.
* Stay current on evolving legislation, government action plans, industry activity and innovation.
Who you are
Degree‑level educated with experience managing human rights and ethical risks, ideally within food or clothing sectors. Strong stakeholder management and engagement skills, strategic thinking, and ability to influence, train and coach.
Comfortable with risk assessment, budgeting and prioritising activity within competing priorities, and able to communicate complex ethical and sustainability topics to internal and external audiences.
Essential Criteria
* Proven experience in a sustainability or commercial role within retail or manufacturing, delivering on human rights and ethical strategies.
* Demonstrable track record of developing and implementing human‑rights programmes and delivering practical delivery plans.
* Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across internal teams and external partners.
* Solid understanding of wider sustainability risks and resilience topics relevant to food and/or clothing value chains.
* Experience managing complex projects end‑to‑end, including budgets, prioritisation, reporting and clear written communication.
