Independent Reviewing Officer - Durham County Council
Pay rate: £35.45 per hour
Durham County Council is seeking an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join their Children's Social Care - Safeguarding & Professional Practice service.
The successful candidate will chair Children in Care Reviews, Child Protection Conferences, and other key safeguarding meetings, ensuring care planning is effective, compliant, and focused on achieving positive outcomes for children and young people.
Key Responsibilities:
Chairing statutory reviews and conferences in line with legal frameworks.
Providing independent scrutiny and challenge to improve care standards.
Ensuring the child's voice is central to care planning.
Supporting quality assurance and service development across the authority.Requirements:
Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
Significant experience in children's social care, ideally as an IRO or in senior safeguarding.
Strong understanding of Care Planning Regulations and child protection frameworks.
Excellent communication, analytical and chairing skills.Essential Requirements:
Social Work Qualification - Degree or equivalent
Minimum 3 years' experience within children's services
Social Work England Registration
