Overview
The Aseptic Pharmacy Technician role is integral to delivering safe, effective, and patient‑centred aseptic pharmacy services at University Hospital Southampton. As part of a high‑performing aseptic unit, you will support the efficient day‑to‑day running of the service, ensuring the consistent provision of high‑quality products that meet patient needs and regulatory standards.
As an experienced and accredited technician you will take a leading role in coordinating workload, allocating tasks, and ensuring priorities are met within a busy environment. You will mentor and support junior staff, contributing to their development through training, guidance, and role‑modeling professional best practice. You will actively contribute to continuous improvement of the aseptic service by identifying opportunities for development and supporting the review, update, and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team of Pharmacists, Technicians and Support Workers, you will communicate effectively, escalate issues appropriately, and uphold the Trust’s values and professional standards at all times.
Responsibilities
* Supervise and coordinate the day‑to‑day activities within the Aseptic Unit, ensuring work is effectively organised and prioritised to meet service demands.
* Ensure the safe preparation and supply of aseptic products by maintaining GMP standards, adhering strictly to cleanroom procedures, and carrying out final accuracy checks.
* Act as a role model within the team by demonstrating high professional standards and best practices in aseptic services.
* Support the development of junior staff through training, mentoring, and providing constructive feedback.
* Contribute to recruitment, induction and ongoing competency assessment of staff within the unit.
Experience and Skills Required
* Registered Pharmacy Technician or Science Manufacturing Technician with an accredited accuracy‑checking qualification.
* Proven experience in supervising or supporting junior staff, with strong communication skills to deliver clear guidance, training and feedback.
* Ability to effectively manage workload, prioritise tasks and solve problems in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining high professional standards.
* Excellent teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality and safety in all aspects of work.
