Highways Inspector
Local Authority | 4‑Month Contract (Possible Extension)
Aatom Recruitment is currently working on behalf of a local authority to recruit a Highways Inspector for an initial 4‑month contract, with the potential for extension and possible permanent opportunities if the placement is successful.
This role is mainly remote, with inspectors working out in their designated areas. There will be occasional office attendance for meetings as required.
Role Overview
This is an immediate vacancy within the Highways team, created to support current service demands, with scope for longer‑term recruitment.
The successful candidate will assist the Highways team by delivering an inspection, monitoring, and public liaison service across the borough’s highway network.
Key Responsibilities
* Carrying out regular visual inspections of highway assets
* Identifying defects and determining appropriate remedial action
* Raising works orders with council contractors
* Issuing defect notices to utility companies to arrange repairs
* Managing customer enquiries through to resolution
* Monitoring raised orders and ensuring completion
* Updating website comments and records to keep customers informed
* Supporting effective communication between the council, contractors, and the public
Ideal Candidate
* Previous experience within highways inspection or a similar highways role
* Knowledge of local authority highways procedures (desirable)
* Strong communication and customer service skills
* Ability to work independently in a remote environment
* Full UK driving licence (likely essential)
