Contract Type: Full-time, long-term (with potential to go permanent)
Start Date: ASAP / January 2026


Teaching Personnel are working closely with a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Bolton who are looking to appoint a dedicated and resilient SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join their supportive team.

This PRU caters for pupils aged 11–16 who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education, often due to Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour. The staff team are passionate about providing a safe, nurturing environment where every young person can re-engage with learning and make positive progress.


Your Role:

* Support pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis, helping them manage emotions and behaviour.

* Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and positive outcomes.

* Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff to implement tailored support plans.

* Promote a calm and inclusive environment where pupils can develop both academically and socially.


The Ideal Candidate:

* Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, ASC or challenging behaviour (in education, youth work, or care settings).

* Is patient, empathetic, and confident in de-escalation and behaviour management strategies.

* Can adapt quickly and stay positive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

* Holds or is willing to apply for an Enhanced DBS (on the Update Service).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
