37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 08.00-16.00 (with some flexibility depending on departmental needs)
Are you passionate about gardening and maintaining beautiful outdoor spaces? Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Garden Maintenance Assistant to join our dedicated Estates team. In this role, you’ll help maintain the hospital grounds, ensuring they are clean, safe, and welcoming for patients, staff, and visitors.
What Will You Be Doing?
As a Garden Maintenance Assistant, your key responsibilities will include:
* Grounds Maintenance: Daily cleaning and litter collection across the hospital grounds, including emptying litter bins, sweeping leaves, and clearing garden rubbish.
* Gardening Tasks: Mowing lawns, strimming, trimming hedges, pruning shrubs, and cultivating flowerbeds.
* Plant Care: Planting, watering, and caring for plants, including the maintenance of the greenhouse and taking cuttings.
* Seasonal Responsibilities: Turfing, seeding, and maintaining seasonal displays such as hanging baskets and flower beds.
* Snow and Gritting: Assisting with snow clearing and gritting as required during winter months, on a rota basis.
* Weekend Duties: Regular weekend tasks, including plant watering and car park clean-ups.
* Security and Equipment Care: Ensuring all equipment is stored safely and securely and assisting with the acceptance of goods in the absence of the Head Gardener.
Who Are We Looking For?
* Apprentice-trained or relevant qualifications in grounds maintenance (desirable but not essential).
* At least 2 years’ experience in grounds maintenance, ideally working on a large estate.
* Familiarity with powered gardening machinery and a clean driving licence.
* Strong communication skills to engage with staff, visitors, and the public, representing the Trust professionally.
* Ability to work independently, with flexibility during busy periods or inclement weather.
* Good understanding of Health and Safety protocols, particularly when using power tools and handling equipment.
* Any candidates with a PA1 and PA6 licence to handle and spray pesticides/herbicides are at a distinct advantage and will require proof of ownership.
* This role may require you to show evidence of vocational level 3 qualification or at least 2 years relevant experience.
