Martin House Children's Hospice provides care and support to children and young people with life-limiting illnesses, as well as to their families. Support is delivered at the hospice in Boston Spa, in hospitals, and in family homes across West, North, and East Yorkshire. Serving over 420 children and young people annually, alongside 150 bereaved families, Martin House is dedicated to making every day meaningful for those with shortened life expectancies and their loved ones. The hospice operates with compassion and focuses on delivering exceptional care tailored to individual needs.
Role Description
The Chair of the Board of Trustees will provide leadership to the Board, ensuring it operates effectively and supports the strategic development of Martin House. Key responsibilities include overseeing the charity's governance and compliance, collaborating with the Chief Executive to shape organisational objectives, and acting as an ambassador for Martin House within the community. The Chair will preside over Board meetings and work with trustees to ensure that children, young people, and families remain at the heart of the hospice's work. This is a volunteer role, based on-site in Boston Spa.
Qualifications
Knowledge of Charities and the not-for-profit sector, with a strong understanding of their purpose and operations.
Experience in Finance and Business Planning to support resource allocation and sustainability.
Proven expertise in Strategic Planning and Corporate Governance to guide long-term decision-making and maintain compliance.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to manage Board dynamics and effectively represent the organisation.
Prior trustee or board-level experience is advantageous.
A commitment to the mission of Martin House and an ability to dedicate time to support its objectives.
