South Hampshire Women's Refuge is a safe space providing accommodation support for women and their children who are fleeing domestic abuse. We are committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment, making sure each resident has access to the support and advice they need and empowering them to understand their options and make decisions for their future. Our ultimate goal is for our residents to move on to independent accommodation with the skills and tools to live a safe and happy life free from domestic abuse.
This role sits within our Southampton Service where we have a 10 bed refuge.
As our Domestic Abuse Support Worker, you’ll manage a caseload of survivors through their journey with Stonewater, ensuring a strengths based, trauma informed approach that enables them to realise their potential.
You will manage referrals into the service, undertake interviews and assessments and notify potential customers of the outcomes of these activities. You will also induct new customers into the service and deliver quality, outcome focused support sessions in both one-to-one sessions and group sessions.
The ideal candidate will...
1. Have proven experience of working with people within a similar role along with knowledge of homelessness and the impact on young people.
2. Have working knowledge of housing and benefits advice.
3. have experience of partnership working with specialist agencies such as mental health teams and youth offending services.
4. Be a natural relationship builder, able to motivate, influence and inspire others.
5. Have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt your approach depending on your audience and required outcome.
6. Have a comprehensive understanding of professional boundaries, together with a high level of personal integrity.
7. Be confident using technology for overseeing support plans and risk assessments, collaborating with colleagues and completing online training.
Due to the nature of the role, you will be flexible in your approach, willing to be part of the on-call rota.
Appointment to this role will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check, satisfactory references and possession of a valid Right to Work document.
