The Project: We are recruiting a Financial Accountant for the NextGen4Peace project, a major four-year PEACEPLUS-funded initiative led by The Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation in partnership with Mediation Northern Ireland and several associate partners. The project empowers the next generation of peacebuilders by delivering conflict resolution, mediation, and dialogue training to marginalised communities across Northern Ireland's six counties and the six border counties of the Republic of Ireland; it targets 2,240 participants, establishes anchor sites for training and mediation services in Belfast, Derry, Dungannon, Garvagh, and Monaghan, nurtures 30 mediators/facilitators, and supports school-based initiatives for positive community relations. The Financial Accountant will be a key member of the management team, working collaboratively with the Chief Financial Officer, the NextGen4Peace Programme Manager, and other relevant staff across Glencree and partner organisations, playing a pivotal role in managing the projects financial operations, ensuring full compliance with Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) and EU financial regulations, maintaining transparent and robust financial systems, and providing accurate reporting to the Project Director, Glencree management, and the funder. This position requires a highly organised and detail-oriented professional who can manage multi-partner financial processes, prepare claims, oversee audits, and support the delivery of the projects peacebuilding goals through sound financial stewardship. Your Duties: Financial Planning & Budget Management: Develop and maintain the multi-annual project budget and forecasts. Prepare regular financial reports, cash-flows, and variance analyses. Monitor project expenditure against budget and support decision-making with financial insights. Support the Project Director in strategic planning, resource allocation, and risk assessment. Claims, Reporting & Audit: Prepare and submit financial claims and reports to SEUPB in accordance with programme requirements. Maintain complete and compliant audit trails for all transactions. Liaise with auditors, SEUPB controllers, and partner finance leads to ensure all financial documentation meets required standards. Coordinate responses to audit or verification requests and implement recommendations. Financial Controls & Systems: Operate effective internal financial control systems specific to the project. Manage accounts payable, payroll allocations, reconciliations, and partner payments. Ensure procurement and expenditure comply with SEUPB and EU eligibility and value-for-money rules. Contribute to the improvement of Glencrees overall financial systems for EU-funded projects. Partner Financial Coordination: Provide financial guidance and support to project partners. Review and verify partner financial submissions, claims, and supporting documentation. Deliver training and advice on SEUPB financial procedures and compliance to non-finance staff and partners. Compliance, Governance & Risk: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SEUPB and EU funding regulations. Identify potential financial risks and recommend mitigation actions. Ensure all financial reporting upholds Glencrees governance, transparency, and ethical standards. Prepare information for project boards, management meetings, and SEUPB monitoring. Project Close-Out: Lead the financial close-out process, including reconciliation of accounts, final reports, and audit support. Contribute to project evaluation and lessons learned from a financial perspective. Your Profile: Essential: Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent) or substantial relevant experience. Minimum three years experience in financial management or accounting. Proven experience managing budgets, preparing financial claims, and working with auditors. Strong understanding of financial compliance in public or EU-funded projects. Excellent analytical, organisational, and IT skills (Excel and accounting software such as Sage or Xero). Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to support non-finance colleagues. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently. Desirable: Experience with SEUPB-funded (PEACE or INTERREG) or other EU-funded programmes. Knowledge of procurement regulations and eligibility criteria for EU funding. Experience in the charity or not-for-profit sector. Understanding of peacebuilding, reconciliation, or cross-community work in an Irish/Northern Irish context. Experience managing or supporting partner organisations in collaborative projects. Other: Eligible to work in the Republic of Ireland required. Full, clean driving licence and access to own transport (essential, with travel across NI, border counties, and Glencree head office). Your Benefits: Salary: €48,885 pro rata (Three day week). Travel reimbursement is in line with RoI Civil Service mileage rates. Additional Information: Part time, four year fixed term contract. Three days a week. Primarily based at Glencree Centre in Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow with some travel across the island of Ireland.
