Relief Milker/Farm Technician (Bank)

A Bank Relief Milker/Farm Technician is required to join our friendly and sociable farm team, working alongside staff and students on our busy College Farm nestled in the beautiful rural countryside of West Sussex. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain experience in dairy farming, livestock care, and the day-to-day running of a working farm, with the flexibility of a bank, variable-hours contract.
Your primary responsibility will be to provide essential cover for the milking of our 140 dairy cows, which include Shorthorns and Ayrshires. This support is crucial during staff holidays, illness, or other periods of staff shortage. As part of the herd management team, you ll play a key role in maintaining high standards of animal welfare and milk production.
In addition to milking duties, you will be involved in a range of livestock husbandry tasks, including regular stock checks and the operation of basic farm machinery. This hands-on role offers a varied and rewarding experience in a real-world agricultural setting.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in agricultural machinery and livestock husbandry, while laying the foundation for a long-term career in the agriculture and dairy sectors. You ll gain hands-on experience operating essential farm vehicles, including tractors, ATVs (All-Terrain Vehicles), and telehandlers versatile machines used for lifting and transporting materials around the farm. Whether you're assisting with feeding, moving hay bales, or supporting daily livestock care, you'll be learning valuable techniques that are central to modern farm operations. It s a great chance to build confidence and competence in a supportive environment, while working outdoors in the countryside as part of a knowledgeable and welcoming Farm Team.
You must hold a minimum Level 2 qualification in Agriculture or a related subject area, along with a full UK driving licence. Previous industrial experience in farming, particularly in dairy or livestock, is essential. A solid understanding of health and safety practices in an agricultural environment is also required.
Brinsbury Farm operates 52 weeks a year, and as such, you may be expected to work unsociable hours, including weekends and bank holidays. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the rhythm of farm life, working outdoors in the countryside, and being part of a dedicated team that values animal care and agricultural education.
