About the Role
Main Purpose of the Role
To lead the commercial and operational performance of the company’s quarry operations, restoration works, and bulk materials distribution activities.
The Quarry Manager is accountable for delivering safe, efficient and profitable operations while ensuring full regulatory compliance and high environmental standards. The role is responsible for driving operational excellence, developing new commercial opportunities in bulk materials, and supporting the wider group’s strategic objectives.
This position provides leadership across operations, logistics and commercial functions, ensuring the business unit operates effectively, delivers strong financial performance, and maintains excellent service to both internal and external customers.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Performance and Commercial Leadership
The Quarry Manager is fully accountable for the financial performance of the department.
Responsibilities include:
* Deliver the departmental profit and loss (P&L) performance, meeting agreed revenue, cost and margin targets.
* Develop, manage and control the departmental budget, ensuring disciplined cost management and continuous improvement in operating margins.
* Lead the sales and business development function, identifying growth opportunities while protecting and improving margins.
* Ensure quarrying, processing and distribution costs are effectively managed through strong operational oversight and efficient planning.
* Take a long-term view of capital investment and asset maintenance, ensuring plant, equipment and infrastructure are maintained effectively.
* Monitor financial performance and operational metrics, identifying risks, opportunities and corrective actions where required.
* Prepare and present regular business performance reports to senior leadership.
Operational Leadership and Delivery
The Quarry Manager is accountable for the safe, reliable and efficient delivery of operational activities across the department.
Responsibilities include:
* Ensure the department is appropriately resourced, with suitable skills, cover and succession planning in place.
* Work closely with the Quarry Manager to plan and deliver production, restoration and material placement programmes.
* Ensure operational activities are planned and executed efficiently to meet production, delivery and customer service requirements.
* Maintain high standards of service delivery to internal group operations and external customers.
* Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and operational performance.
* Ensure effective coordination between operational teams, logistics and other parts of the group.
Leadership and People Management
The Quarry Manager is responsible for building and leading a high-performing team.
Responsibilities include:
* Lead, motivate and develop teams across operations, logistics and commercial functions.

Health, Safety, Environmental and Regulatory Compliance
The Quarry Manager holds overall accountability for compliance within the business unit.
Responsibilities include:
* Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture across all activities.
* Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) legislation, internal policies and industry best practice.
* Ensure operations comply with all relevant Quarry Regulations and statutory requirements.
* Work closely with the Quarry Manager and HSE specialists to monitor compliance and manage risk.
* Ensure environmental responsibilities, restoration obligations and planning conditions are met.
* Lead by example in promoting safe working practices and environmental responsibility.
Strategic Development and Business Growth
The Quarry Manager plays a key role in developing the future of the bulk materials business.
Responsibilities include:
* Identify and develop new commercial opportunities for bulk materials.
* Prioritise meeting the material requirements of internal group projects, ensuring reliable and cost-effective supply.
* Selectively develop relationships with high-value external customers where this supports the overall business strategy.
* Contribute to the long-term strategic development of the quarry and materials business.
* Evaluate new markets, partnerships and operational opportunities that support sustainable growth.
Stakeholder and Relationship Management
The Quarry Manager must maintain effective relationships across internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities include:
* Work collaboratively with other group business units to support operational and commercial objectives.
* Maintain strong relationships with key customers, suppliers and contractors.
* Engage with regulators, local authorities and other relevant stakeholders where required.
* Represent the business unit in internal and external forums when appropriate.

Pay range and compensation package
This role attracts a salary of £70,00-£80,000 per annum, plus;
