Field Support Engineer – Thales UK (Portsmouth)
Thales is the principal provider of secure communications equipment to the Royal Navy, supplying critical communications equipment for over 60 years. We support a highly sophisticated maritime communications network.
The Field Support Engineer will provide technical support and assistance at nominated locations, including advisory duties, full maintenance activities, and on‑site investigations.
Key responsibilities include:
* Respond to technical queries, acting as the single point of contact for the user community.
* Log queries on the appropriate database.
* Coordinate on‑base investigations and liaise with external agencies and other operating bases.
* Communicate technical status, schedule issues, and provide updates to users/customers.
* Act as subject‑matter expert for allocated equipment.
* Help users/maintainers minimise misdiagnosis and unnecessary equipment returns.
* Maintain high standards of incident/fault data.
Qualifications:
* Significant experience working with naval communications equipment of similar technology.
* High expertise in naval communications equipment.
* Robust network/IT experience with naval platforms.
* Strong technical background in HF and VHF technology maintenance and fault finding.
Security clearance: SC clearance required; if currently held it is advantageous, otherwise candidate must obtain and maintain SC clearance.
Working hours: Monday‑Thursday 08:00‑16:30, Friday 08:00‑13:00.
