Base pay range

In line with our redeployment policy, we’ll prioritise applications from employees who are under formal notice of redundancy.

We’re looking for a motivated individual to step into the role of Assistant Director for Northern Ireland.

As one of two Assistant Directors, you will lead a team of General Managers and Specialist Delivery Partners. You’ll help shape the focus and future of our work in restoring nature, working with more diverse audiences across our sites and supporting our growth ambitions across Northern Ireland, both on and beyond our sites.

What it's like to work here

As an Assistant Director you’ll play a key role in delivering our new National Trust strategy. Reporting to the Country Director for Northern Ireland, you’ll be part of a motivated, supportive senior team. Working together we will drive our contribution to the Trust’s strategy, responding to the needs and challenges of Northern Ireland’s unique context. This role will require travel across Northern Ireland and further. You'll be required to work at a Trust location for 40‑60% of your working week and a contractual base will be nominated, but you'll go where you are needed.

We are a values driven organisation that puts people at the heart of everything we do. Every day you’ll be inspired by the people you work with and the things that we can achieve.

What you'll be doing

This is a strategic and operational leadership role within a complex and multidisciplinary organisation. At its heart it’s about leading a team of General Managers and Specialists who manage special places across Northern Ireland as well as supporting our wider nature and climate ambitions beyond our boundaries. You'll succeed through collaboration and working with and through others.

In order to do this, you will be working with a wide range of external partners who will codesign and collaborate with National Trust to deliver our strategy for public benefit in Northern Ireland.

You’ll demonstrate inspirational leadership to enable your team to Restore Nature, End Unequal Access and Inspire Millions.

As part of our broader team of ADs across Wales, Northern Ireland and England, you’ll also take the role of sponsor for large‑scale, multi‑million‑pound projects and partnerships. Every day is different. Some days you’ll be juggling issues through online meetings, others you’ll be chairing a project board meeting, or meeting with one of the General Managers or Specialists to support them with a property or team issue. In the space of an hour, you could discuss finance and funding, risk, compliance, a brilliant new idea pitched to you, people issues, or the complex external world view of our partners.
