About the Role
This is a hands-on Head of Finance role for a commercially minded, qualified accountant who wants to take ownership of a finance function while working directly with founders and senior stakeholders, delivering accurate month-end close, management accounts, and Board packs across a multi-entity portfolio. You will take ownership of the finance function as part of the Senior Leadership Team, working closely with founders and directors within the Portfolio and reporting directly into the COO, with a clear progression into a strategic and M&A-focused role as the Fourteen Group and the businesses within the portfolio scale.
Responsibilities
Month-End & Financial Reporting
* Own and deliver the month-end close process across all entities
* Prepare accurate and timely management accounts
* Produce high-quality Board Packs with clear financial insight and present these to Founders/Directors during Board Meetings
* Ensure all reconciliations, journals, and reporting are completed to a high standard
* Maintain strong control over financial data accuracy and integrity
Finance Operations & Control
Oversee day-to-day finance processes including:
* Invoicing, credit control, and cash collection
* Supplier payments and bank reconciliations
* Expense management
* Payroll coordination
* Manage cashflow and working capital across multiple entities
* Ensure robust financial controls and processes are in place
Team Management & Function Build
* Manage and develop the Finance Executive within the team
* Take ownership of building and scaling the finance function
Board Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
* Present financials to Founders and Directors
* Act as a key finance contact for portfolio companies
* Provide clear, actionable financial insights to support decision-making
Budgeting, Forecasting & Commercial Support
* Lead budgeting and forecasting processes across the portfolio
* Provide financial analysis to support:
* Growth planning
* Hiring decisions
* Commercial strategy
* Work closely with internal teams to improve financial visibility and performance tracking
External Accountant & Compliance Oversight
* Act as the primary point of contact for external accountants
* Oversee:
* VAT returns
* Statutory accounts
* Corporation tax
* Dividend planning
* Ensure compliance across all entities and that deadlines are consistently met
Process Improvement & Systems
* Work cross-functionally to implement and improve finance processes
* Drive efficiency, automation, and scalability
* Enhance reporting capability across tools such as Xero, Spotlight and Excel
Future Progression – Strategic & M&A Exposure
As the portfolio grows, the role will evolve to include:
* Supporting M&A activity across portfolio companies
* Financial due diligence and transaction support
* Preparing businesses for exit
Qualifications
Essential:
* Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
* Strong experience in:
* Month-end close
* Management accounts
* Financial reporting
* Comfortable being hands-on and detail-focused
* Strong organisational and stakeholder management skills
Desirable:
* Recruitment or multi-entity experience
* Start-up or scale-up exposure
