Job Summary: Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.
Job Description
Provides nursing care to patients using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). Directs and leads other assigned team members and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to provide age/developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards of care and practice. Provides patient/family-centered care focusing on physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. This includes assessment, development of nursing diagnoses, outcome identification, planning, implementation of interventions, coordination of care, health teaching and promotion, and evaluation of goals and interventions consistent with MUSC policies. Maintains a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through ensuring patient privacy and professional behavior. Demonstrates the ability to function in a professional setting through active participation in a professional practice model, including shared governance, adherence to standards of care, peer review, professional development, leadership and clinical excellence, teamwork, autonomous practice, and accountability for actions and critical thinking. Coordinates the delivery of patient care services through care management principles, identifies clinical priorities, and initiates actions to improve patient outcomes.
Position Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. Bachelors degree preferred. Two years of hospital experience is preferred but not required. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, sit for extended periods, visually interpret data, move between work areas, and handle stress of high call volume and data entry. Must have initiative, good judgment, resilience, patience, discretion, perseverance, and enthusiasm. Current South Carolina Nursing license or compact state license. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) with AHA recommended.
Additional Job Description: Minimum requirements: Associates Degree; Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state; Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
Physical Requirements
* Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
* Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking patient vitals, administering injections, or conducting physical exams.
* Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.
* Visual acuity and color perception to read medical charts, documents, and monitors.
* Auditory ability to communicate with patients and colleagues and to perceive important sounds such as alarms.
* Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations.
* Mobility to navigate clinical environments between patient rooms, offices, and other areas.
* Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of PPE.
