Responsible to: Group Financial Controller
Role Overview
The role is responsible for leading the Accounting and Payroll team within the Finance function. It involves overseeing daily accounting operations, managing month-end processes, supporting the preparation of annual financial statements in compliance with FRS 102, coordinating audits, ensuring tax and payroll compliance, and maintaining accurate financial records with strong controls. This position provides pivotal support to the Group Financial Controller to ensure the quality and accuracy of the Group’s financial data and reporting.
The Person
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
* Leadership experience within a Finance team, managing and developing colleagues.
* Proven experience in management accounts, month-end and year-end close processes, and statutory accounts preparation.
* Knowledge of FRS 102 and the UK tax environment.
* Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
* Excellent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office and Finance & Accounting software.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills.
* Good understanding of regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities include:
* Overseeing daily accounting operations for accurate and timely financial reporting.
* Managing month-end processes, including ledger entries and reconciliations.
* Supporting the preparation of annual financial statements in line with FRS 102.
* Coordinating audits with external auditors.
* Ensuring tax compliance, including VAT returns and working with tax advisors.
* Maintaining accurate financial records and documentation.
* Overseeing payroll functions, ensuring timely and compliant processing.
* Implementing and maintaining strong financial controls.
* Managing and developing a small team of accounting and payroll specialists.
WRU Requirements
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, excellent communication skills, and ability to build stakeholder relationships are essential. Welsh language skills and a valid UK Driver's License are desirable. The role is subject to a basic DBS check.
